the film
The Suit is a female-led supernatural thriller. Vibey and atmospheric, with elements of  psychological thriller, social horror, and slasher, our film sits in the genre-space between Lynch, Peele, and Hitchcock.

The Suit was written so that a small, nimble team could create something unforgettable. We’re calling the visual style “Neon Hitchcock.” Shots will be formally composed, with bright colors sneaking in at the edges.

The goal of this project is national distribution. As such, we are committed to casting recognizable lead actors, as well as maintaining a production value and quality of craft that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of the genre.
director's introduction
Washington State was the first cradle for my young imagination. I could only see where forests, rivers, and mountain ranges began; to my mind, they had no end. Folk tales, whether local or otherwise, felt like they took place here. Even Narnia, I was sure, lay somewhere just beyond Orcas Island.

As an adult, my ongoing love of film goes beyond mere enthusiasm. I believe film and television are still the primary shapers of the American imagination, even in this fragmented age. Our imaginations, in turn, inform the boundaries of what we believe is possible. Who we see, what we see them doing, and how they are rewarded affect who we grant significance to in our daily lives.

Film not only captivates, it transforms.

The Suit is a deeply personal story, which is what gives the film its texture and intensity. I wrote the story about the struggle to escape the cycle of narcissistic abuse. But, I’ve been delighted to find that my readers connect in varied ways, with the character of  “The Suit” often standing in for a personal experience or trauma.

The Suit also celebrates the quiet strength of kindness and earned wisdom. Ava, a middle-aged Black woman, is not the stereotype typically at the center of a thriller narrative. And yet her experience, presence, and moral center carry the day. These earned traits come from a life of fighting for visibility, recognition, and too often, survival.

Finally, I wrote this story so that it could only be filmed in Washington. It is a tour of Puget Sound, showing off our natural and cultural richness. It will drip forest greens, misty blues, and old-brick reds. The Pacific Northwest is one of America’s most distinctive and yet under-filmed regions.

I hope to use its expansive beauty and mystery to push back the boundaries of my audience’s imaginations, just as it did for me.

producer's note
I believe in the power of community. I believe in creating something out of nothing. It might be because I minored in theater – a small group of people coming together to commit to playing make believe, in order to make a real experience. Something physically temporary, but that would exist in minds long after the sets come down. Something that can reach out and resonate with the audience.

That’s magic to me. That’s manifestation. It’s conjuring.

And conjuring is sacred. So when I work with other filmmakers on set, I want that experience to be a time for everyone involved to work hard at their craft, and be treated with care and respect. This team is dedicated to fair pay, hours, and an on set culture of community guidelines based on the acknowledgment and understanding of systemic inequalities in the film industry.

I also came onto The Suit to work with Paul David because I believe in the motivations behind this thriller. I want the audience to be terrified, but also curious about manipulations and abuse. My hope is that the film’s message finds its way into your peripheral vision, and lives at the edge of your mind’s vision for years to come.
